I was perplexed to see these expensive looking women asking for charity during the July festivals in Saut d’Eau. No

matter how well maintain these women look – expensive jewelry, well manicured finger nails, well applied make-up on

their faces etc., local residents reward them with pennies, stale bread, and few grains such as corn, beans and

rice.
