STRENGHT IN UNITY FOR A BETTER
SAUT-D'EAU
Charmant Cenatus
I have noticed
with a painful heart the sad and the cruel way certain people talk about Saut-d'Eau. According to them, Saut-d’Eau is not only a deplorable
and miserable town; it is also the bastion of voodoo. It is really indecent and spiteful to describe Saut-d'Eau like that.
I was reading an article about Saut-d'Eau written on July 16, 2007 by a journalist. He mentioned a ceremony of voodoo held in Nivard, village
located a few miles from Mirebalais. In spite of the distance and the voodoo's ceremony location, the defame and the slander fell on Saut-d'Eau.
Also, he was talking about a "mambo" that he met at the steps of the church. The woman was from Bainet, he said (she is not from Saut d’Eau). Therefore, we can conclude, without hesitation and doubt, that a lot of
wrongdoings held in Saut-d'Eau are not done by the people of Saut-d'Eau. Moreover, those who initiated the animals' procession through the
streets of the town are all outsiders. It is a shame to see certain pilgrims come to soil our land and destroy our reputation. Sautdelais are
religious, respectful, friendly and hospitable people. So is our Mother, Saut-d'Eau. Saut d’Eau is ordinarily calm, peaceful and attractive.
That's why every year thousands and thousands of people get together to taste its sweet and fabulous coolness.
Furthermore, the reporter sustained that Saut-d'Eau is a contradiction. Saut-d'Eau, per se, is not a contradiction. The pilgrims make it a
contradiction for a limited period of time. For, they go to Saut-d'Eau for different reasons. There are people who go to Saut-d'Eau every year -
they don't even know where the church is located. Believe me, it is really impossible to know, see and taste the real and true aspect of
Saut-d'Eau when the feast is being celebrated.
Also, the writer underlined that streets are dirty and muddy in Saut-d'Eau. According to me, this situation is the result and the consequence of
the dirtiness and the bad actions of certain pilgrims. What do you expect when you throw garbage everywhere and you do not clean?
Saut-d'Eau is muddy? What is the difference between Saut-d'Eau and other parts of Haiti after rain?
Briefly, wherever we are we meet problems. Instead of criticizing, we have to get together to bring solutions to
the problems. That is what we call: "STRENGHT IN UNITY".
